![]() ![]() ![]() He sneaks onto one of the choppers headed for Afghanistan in an attempt to escape. Not a big part of the game, but worth mentioning.Įli’s role in the main story doesn’t really start until Skull Face’s location is confirmed by Diamond Dogs. ![]() To me, this seems like a metaphor for whenever Kojima has tried to negotiate with his superiors at Konami (wether it’d be about funding, leaving the company, etc.). There’s another moment in the game where Eli challenges Venom Snake to a rematch at Mother Base. This may be a reference to some moment between Kojima and his co-workers, but there’s no evidence to back that up. But really all that happens is that Eli gets worked up by one of the children at the base mentioning his dad, and then Ocelot puts him in his place. There’s a bonus scene that can play anywhere from his arrival at Mother Base to right before his detainment following the child soldiers’ escape. After this bit, we don’t get much from Eli. But as he begins work on Peace Walker and MGSV, he secretly begins planning his departure from the company.įollowing me so far? Alright. But Konami’s might is too great, and he has no choice but to give in. This angers him to no end, and he does everything in his power to fight back. Then suddenly Konami’s CEO comes back and pressures him into making a fifth major installment. This sequence is the first bit to analyze. Imagine that Kojima has gotten tired of working on the Metal Gear series for Konami after MGS4, and just wants to do his own thing. As he continues to live in Diamond Dogs’ custody, he develops a plan to break out. Eli eventually realizes he has no say in the matter, and lets himself be carried to the chopper. When Snake arrives in Eli’s lair, Eli gives everything he has to kill Venom Snake, but Snake gets the upper hand. Venom Snake is sent to bring him back to Mother Base in order to disrupt the mayhem he and his army are causing. We first meet Eli – going by the moniker «White Mamba» – in Central Africa, where he’s leading his own small militia of child soldiers. Diamond Dogs are a representation of Konami (Venom Snake being Konami’s CEO and everyone else being Konami employees). His child soldiers are representations of his Kojima Productions employees. Well, after a while, I think I have found one I’m pretty confident about: Eli, and almost everything surrounding him in MGSV, is a metaphor for Kojima and Konami and everything that went down during the development of MGSV.įirst, let’s establish the analogies here. But not everything added up, so I went looking for another explanation. Why does he just take Sahelanthropus and the English vocal cord parasite? What happens with Kingdom of the Flies after the 1980s?Īt first I thought Kingdom of the Flies was a reference to Sons of Big Boss (you know, Metal Gear, Psycho Mantis, Liquid Snake, etc.), and that they disappearing foreshadowed their return later on. Ever since I completed Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, I’ve been wondering why Eli’s arc is left up in the air. ![]()
